Shadow Work: Meeting the Disowned Self

Dr. Marie Kerns 959-285-5199

One of the most important tasks of midlife is confronting the shadow—the parts of ourselves we have rejected or hidden.

These may include:

  • Envy
  • Anger
  • Ambition
  • Desire
  • Vulnerability

The shadow is not simply negative. It often contains untapped vitality and creativity.

When left unconscious, it can distort perception—especially in relationships—through projection. We may see in others what we cannot yet accept in ourselves.

When brought into awareness, however, the shadow becomes a source of:

  • Compassion
  • Authenticity
  • Psychological freedom
